Four Tips for Designing and Sending Halloween Invitations
| |
Halloween parties are a common occurrence in the last couple of weeks of October, and partygoers often have a number of options to choose from. If you’re throwing a Halloween party and want to make sure that friends and family will come, an easy way to get the word out is to send Halloween invitations.Sending invitations is the easy part, though. Following are four tips to help you design, send and manage Halloween invitations for your party. |
- Design: Choosing a design for Halloween invitations no longer means a decision between pumpkins and ghosts. Today’s invitations come in a variety of colors, styles and themes from which to choose, and in some cases you can purchase the materials to create your own. Invitations set the tone for the party before the guest arrives, so it’s a good idea to choose something that communicates the theme of the party, the activities involved or just the host’s personal style.
- Details: Halloween invitations, like all invitations, should include some basic information so that the guest can easily find their way to the party and arrive prepared. At minimum, invitations should include:
- The date and time of the party.
- The name of the host.
- The specific address and location of the party, including any maps or directions.
- Event description and activities, including any stipulations on age, dress codes, etc.
- RSVP contact information (email address and/or phone number) and the deadline to respond.
For parties that require a cover charge, request that guests bring refreshments, are to be kept as surprise, etc. it’s a good idea to include this information on Halloween invitations as well.
- Sending: As a general rule, the more elaborate the party is to host or attend, the further in advance invitations should be sent. Since Halloween parties tend to be more casual affairs, 4-8 weeks advance notice is usually enough time for guests to plan to attend. Any more than eight weeks notice, and guests may lose the invitation or forget the party altogether. Fewer than four weeks, and guests might already have plans or have a hard time finding a costume or making other preparations.
- RSVPs: Once guests start to RSVP, the host of the party will find it useful to keep track of their responses. This is especially true for potluck parties or similar events where there is a danger of multiple people bringing one of the same item. Managing RSVPs can also help to avoid wasting money on unnecessary party supplies, running out of food and other party issues.
Halloween invitations can be as casual or as formal as you like, but they should not be skipped. Not only are they a great way to make sure your guests have the information they need to attend, but they also help you to plan and throw a party that everyone — including you — can enjoy.
